Drop-In Centers

There are drop-in centers for the homeless in Sacramento where homeless men, women and children can help help with anything from food and showers to getting California ID, to finding jobs and housing. Below is a list of drop-in centers in Sacramento, California, where you can just stop by during their opening hours and get help. Some centers only provide assistance to women and/or children whereas some provide assistance for all.

Francis House

Personal attention to the poor. Counseling referrals, hospitality, personal hygiene items, bus tokens and client advocacy. Helps clients to get necessary identification including California ID, California drivers license and birth certificates. Boss Program provides support to individuals when they first become employed, including transportations, uniforms, and basic needs to maintain job employment. Pathways to Success program provide assistance to individuals in finding a job. Call for more information about drop-in times.

Daytime hospitality center in a park setting for homeless men, women, and children.

  • Breakfast,
  • recreation activities,
  • day locker storage,
  • free local telephones,
  • library,
  • showers for men,
  • bathroom facilities,
  • free dog kennels for daytime use (dogs must be already
    immunized). Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, drug and alcohol counseling.

Sign up for services at the Service Center in Friendship Park. Serve lunch on the weekends from 11am– 12:30pm. Weekend lunch tickets are available from 8:30am–12pm.

Maryhouse - Loaves and Fishes

Area Served: Open
Daytime drop-in hospitality center for homeless women and children. Includes:

  • breakfast Monday through Friday, 8-9am,
  • showers,
  • counseling,
  • self-help classes,
  • housing and mental health referrals.

All homeless women and children are eligible for services. Offers use of the facility as a mailing address, use of the telephone, personal toiletries, diapers and formula.

Wellspring Women’s Center

Population Served: Women, and children accompanied by their mothers
Area Served: Sacramento, primarily Oak Park
Continental breakfast for low-income women and children. Services include:

  • self-esteem building;
  • referrals to housing, food, clothing;
  • AIDS, drug and alcohol abuse treatment.

Dropin center provides a safe environment for socializing and assistance. Telephone access available. Creative writing group on Monday 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Call for more information.

WIND Youth Center

Population Served: Homeless ages 12 - 20
Area Served: Sacramento and surrounding areas
Outreach to homeless and runaway teenagers living on the streets, in abandoned buildings, in camps, etc.

  • counseling and referral services.

On-site case manager for assessment, independent study
and preparation for GED or school referral and placement. Referrals for medical and dental care. Preparation for employment. Overnight shelter for at-risk adolescents ages 12 - 17. Opportunity for recreation and socialization.
