Single Shelters

While many shelters are for homeless families, there are emergency shelters that are for single persons. Below is a list of shelters for singles who are homeless in Sacramento. Some are for men only and some women only. 

Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center - Women's Refuge

Intake: Telephone only
Eligibility: Single women in Sacramento County without housing
Temporary emergency shelter, meals and transportation. Housing limited to 30 days. Case management, assistance in locating permanent housing and jobs. Information and referral. Workshops
in coping skills and money management for residents. Transitional housing program through SAEHC's extended shelter available to women saving for permanent housing. Program requires continued case management. Drug, alcohol counseling available.

Salvation Army

Hours: Seven days a week, 24-hours shelter
Intake: Walk-in Only, Monday – Friday, 1pm
Eligibility: Ages 18+
Lodging and meals for homeless single men and women with a support system of multiple resources and special programs.

  • mental health services,
  • recreational activities,
  • substance abuse counseling,
  • Alcoholics Anonymous,
  • alternative housing, spiritual counseling,
  • chapel service and bible studies are offered.

Casework, counseling, and referral services provided to address other areas of need. Haircut vouchers available for clients only.

Union Gospel Mission

Hours: Monday - Thursday 8 am – 4 pm, Friday 8:30 am – Noon
Intake: Walk-in
Eligibility: Open; overnight stay and rehabilitation program for men only
Spiritual help and beds, clothing, food, and counseling service for men. Check-in time for overnight guests is 6:30 pm on a first-come/first-served basis. Attendance at Gospel service each day at 7 pm is mandatory. Dinner at 8:30 pm. Lunch is served Sundays after the 11am service. Meals are open to everyone who attends the service - men, women and children. Clothing and shower for men available M-Th 9-11am, 1-2:45 pm, Friday 9-11am.

Volunteers of America – A Street Shelter for Aid in Kind Program

Intake: Through GA; Sign up at 28th and R Streets
Eligibility: Homeless single men
30 day shelter providing food, housing and referral services for up to 60 homeless men. Staff helps shelter residents access other housing opportunities; refers to drug and alcohol treatment programs if needed.
